Researching a History Essay
Description
In this unit, we look at six different ways in which it is possible to engage in
History in a practical way. The course consists of an instructional video of about
54 minutes duration and a project task sheet. Topics covered in the video include
the following:
- Google Earth Pro Historical Discovery
- Bringing Colour into History
- Discovering History Through Military Modelling
- Visiting a Historical Site: Fort Lytton National Park
- Living History Through Historical Re-enactment
- Discovering History Through Historical Artefacts
Following the video, complete a work booklet consisting of three tasks:
- Task 1 is a practical History research project on a topic of the student’s own choosing.
Students apply skills covered in the video to present their findings in an suitable
audio-visual presentation.
- Task 2 looks at the skills and techniques of historical diorama creation.
- Task 3 involves an evaluation of a historical re-enactment. In this case, we look
at a re-enactment of the famous “Boston Massacre” just prior to the American Revolution.
